The portico of the Swiss Federal Railway Station is constructed of concrete and steel supporting a glass roof.

The construction was accomplished by trucking in the pre-fabricated concrete elements, erecting the main support colums, then supporting them onto the building with smaller columns in the front.  The lower portico roofing elements were then lowered into place.  Supported temporarily with scaffolding, the columns were made ready for the final upper concrete roofing elements, which were lowered into place, fitting into niches in the roofing elements.  First installed were those immediately surrounding the columns, followed by the the central pieces.  Finally, the glass roofing structure was then installed between the portico and building.
